The influence and power of fashion extends far beyond the runways. The fashion industry is not a sector that exists in vacuum. In fact, the industry is not unlike any other key economic drivers, it is a key component of global economy and certainly an important sector to consider when thinking about sustainable development. The fashion industry is one of the fastest growing industries in Africa and Nigeria is slowly emerging a Fashion Power house in terms of creativity and innovation. Thus, through increasing the capacity and well being of our people behind this powerhouse, the fashion industry can play an active role in the development of sustainable livelihood.
The Port Harcourt Fashion and Design Week is a three-day fashion event targeted at promoting sustainable development through stimulating youths who have interest and potentials in the fashion industry, with the necessary tools that will enable, encourage and support their aspirations of being successful and economically empowered youths.
The full programme consists of Runway, Exhibition, Master class facilitated by veterans of the industry, and a contest for upcoming fashion designers/models tagged “PHFDW Creative Promise in Fashion Contest” and Top Model Nigeria respectively.
